The quarterbacks in this year’s NFL Draft class have faced scrutiny from just about everybody. While that scrutiny has been directed at each of the prospects, there is one in particular whose main red flag has gotten extra attention. That prospect is Kenny Pickett.

Pickett’s hands measured only 8.5 inches at the NFL Combine, the smallest in the class and smaller than every current NFL quarterback. It’s an issue that has led to concerns about potential fumbling issues once he turns pro and was expected to hurt his draft stock.

Then the Pittsburgh Steelers used the 20th pick in round one to select him 2 rounds before any other quarterback was taken and promptly brushed off concerns about his hands.

It seems that still hasn’t convinced some. Yesterday on his podcast, Richard Sherman talked about how he doesn’t trust Pickett because he wears gloves.

“Do I think he’s the quarterback of the future? I don’t know. It’s hard for me to trust a quarterback who wears gloves all the time. It’s just different. It’s just different. I just, I have hard time with it.”

While it is unclear whether or not there is actually any correlation between the use of gloves and quarterback success, it is worth noting that it is a rare practice in the NFL these days. There are very few QBs wearing even one glove and only one who wears gloves on both hands.

The most high profile quarterback currently in the NFL who wears 2 gloves is Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater’s career is likely not the outcome the Steelers are hoping to see for Pickett after spending the 20th overall pick on him.

Luckily for Pickett, him and his tiny hands will have plenty of time to try and prove doubters like Sherman wrong.
