On Sunday, the Denver Broncos suffered one of the most brutal losses in NFL history after the Dolphins put on an offensive clinic that saw them walk away with the 70-20 victory. Following the contest, Denver coach Sean Payton was subjected to an endless amount of ridicule—and one NHL coach couldn’t help but crack a joke at his expense.

It seemed like the Broncos had nowhere to go but up after Payton was hired to replace Nathaniel Hackett in the wake of a year where Russell Wilson repeatedly attempted to cook only to whip up a virtually inedible mess on a regular basis, and Denver has plenty of work to do if it wants to salvage its season.

The Vancouver Canucks, on the other hand, have plenty of time to work out the kinks before they officially kick off their regular season campaign against the Oilers on October 11th, and there’s plenty of room for improvement based on what unfolded when they played the first of the six games on their preseason schedule against the Flames on Sunday.

Calgary opted to give the fans who gathered at Scotiabank Saddledome for the contest a chance to watch a good chunk of the guys who will make the final roster take the ice, while Vancouver coach Rick Tocchet used the tilt as an opportunity to let AHLers and other players fighting for a spot try to prove their worth.

As a result, it was not just a one-sided affair but an absolute bloodbath that ended with the Flames securing a 10-0 victory.

Tocchet was obviously less than thrilled with the final score, but when you consider it was a virtually meaningless exhibition game, he was still able to make light of things at a postgame press conference where he joked about the blowout by comparing himself to Denver’s skipper.

Boom roasted.
