NFL legend Rob Gronkowski shared his views on the recent firing of Raiders coach Josh McDaniels.

Gronkowski didn’t hold back, calling the situation “total BS.”, but not because of the firing, but because of how much money McDaniels is getting paid not to work.

The Raiders let McDaniels go last week after a disappointing 26-14 loss to the Lions on Monday Night Football, which meant he lost 16 out of 25 games during his brief tenure.

Since then a ton of stories came out about McDaniels both as a coach and about him personally, including that he’s traded a player because McDaniels’ wife found him attractive and that he called his kids back home from trick-or-trick on Halloween to tell them he’s been fired.

Other stories include Raiders players saying he was “clueless” and that they had a meeting “ripping” into him prior to his firing.

Now McDaniels’ contract is the focus, a six-year deal that, like all NFL head coach contracts, is fully guaranteed.

Gronkowski, who worked with McDaniels during their time on the Patriots, shared his frustration with the disparity between coach and player contracts.

In a recent interview on the Up & Adams show, Gronkowski sympathized with McDaniels emotionally but highlighted the financial aspect, stating, “He signed a six-year deal as a head coach. He’s gonna be paid out for those six years. So he’s getting head-coach money for the next four years of his life. That’s total BS.”

The future Hall of Fame tight end talked about the contrast between coaching and player contracts, suggesting that coaches should have contracts that are only partially guaranteed, unlike players who often have shorter fully guaranteed terms.

“These coaches should only be getting contracts that are only like halfway guaranteed. Us players, we only get two or three years fully guaranteed out of a six-year contract.”

The firing of McDaniels, along with other staff members, is expected to cost Raiders owner Mark Davis approximately $85 million.

Makes sense for players like Gronkwoski to feel things are not fair towards them.
