RGIII Says That Pigeons Are More Respected Than The Gruden Family

Following the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Bucs Wild Card game on Monday night, current ESPN analyst and retired NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III started beefing with his former head coach Jay Gruden on Twitter.

The argument stemmed from Gruden weighing in on the lack of protection that Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts received from his offensive line, prompting Gruden to tweet: “If I ever put a QB through what Philly is putting Jalen through, I apologize.”

RGIII obviously felt Gruden’s comments were ironic based on their time together in Washington and responded with a skeptical selfie.

That beef continued on Thursday night, as Gruden took a legitimately brutal shot at RGIII by saying that Kirk Cousins was better than he was and that neither the Cleveland Browns nor the Baltimore Ravens wanted him.

After some more childish back-and-forth, Gruden made a “joke” about Griffin racing the Seattle Seahawks mascot by calling it a pigeon, which prompted RGIII to say that pigeons are more respected than the Gruden family.

“First of all DON’T YOU DARE disrespect Taima the Hawk. He is a SAINT and a quality opponent who can fly up to 120 mph. Secondly, what do you have against Pigeons? Don’t you know they were CRUCIAL to our World War 1 victory? The Pigeon name is more respected than your last name,” Griffin tweeted in response to Gruden amid their ongoing social media beef.

RGIII is using the beef to his benefit as he’s already hopped on the mic to record a podcast about it.

The fact is that, unless other members of those Washington teams weigh in, the beef between Griffin and Gruden will remain a he-said he-said situation.

When using facts, they’ve each made fair points about the other: Griffin was under siege during his time playing for Gruden as he was sacked more than 30 times in each of his first three seasons in the league and tore his ACL and LCL in a 2013 Wild Card game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Gruden, on the other hand, is certainly right about Griffin’s post-Washington career, as he spent just one year in Cleveland before closing out his career by spending three seasons in Baltimore as Lamar Jackson’s backup.
