The Atlanta Braves took down NL East rival New York on the road 3-2 as they look to climb up the league standings. Ronald Acuna assumed the villain role after launching a 419-foot bomb to centerfield.
The outfielder took nearly 30 seconds to make his way around the basepaths. He nearly paid for it a few at-bats later.
Acuna has been a Mets killer throughout his career. Across 86 career matchups, the slugger was hitting .304 with 16 home runs and a .919 OPS versus New York. He added to that total on Monday.
In the top of the third inning, Acuna belted a 2-1 off-speed pitch deep beyond the outfield wall. The solo blast was absolutely hammered. He made sure the Mets knew about it after the fact.

As he rounded the bases, he took multiple moments to celebrate. In all, he home trot took roughly 25 seconds. He was booed mercilessly by the home crowd each step of the way.
Ronald Acuna has never been one to hold back in celebration. The Mets, unfortunately, have fallen victim to his antics time and again.
The home run trot drew the ire of baseball traditionalists. Former MLB infielder Jeff Frye had the following to say about what he deemed disrespect.
Unfortunately it is now not only accepted but encouraged by Rob Manfred and his gambling henchmen to act like a fool when you have success on an MLB baseball field even when your team sucks and you’re losing the game. Anyone remember when MLB players were expected to act like Professionals?
The Mets threw at Ronald Acuna a few at-bats later.
The outfielder stepped back up to the dish in the top of the sixth frame. He was welcomed with some high cheese from reliever Jose Butto.

The New York fanbase applauded the retaliation. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to help the home team overcome an early deficit.
Atlanta took a 2-0 lead on Acuna’s solo home run. It would extend that advantage to 3-0 later in the inning. The Mets were able to plate a pair of runs on a Juan Soto homer in the bottom of the sixth, but they’d eventually fall by a run.
The win moved the Braves to 36-41 on the year. New York dropped to 46-33. The rivals will square off again on Tuesday for Game 2 of the series.
