Northern Ireland golfer Rory McIlroy is the talk of the sports world this week as the 35-year-old won the Masters on Sunday. By winning the Masters, McIlroy became just the six golfer to complete a career grand slam.
In addition to Rory McIlroy, Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods have also win the career Grand Slam in golf, with Woods being the most recent to do it 25 years ago.
After racking up wins in the other three majors — the U.S. Open, PGA Championship and The Open Championship — between 2011 and 2014, it took McIlroy another 11 years to win the iconic Masters green jacket, which he finally achieved on Sunday.
With Rory’s win, seemingly all of the sports world has joined in to send him congratulations, including the New York Jets, who dug up a 15-year-old tweet from McIlroy that claimed if he was an NFL fan, he’d root for the Jets.
Just to give some context at how long ago that tweet was, it came during the Rex Ryan in New York. Nevertheless, the Jets have seized on it and are attempting to claim McIlroy as their own.

Looking back on, Rory probably wishes he pledged his allegiance to a different NFL team, as the Jets haven’t made the playoffs since the year McIlroy tweeted about them, which is now 14 seasons and counting.
The Butler Men’s Basketball team pulled a similar stunt, digging up a Rory tweet from 2011 in which he was supporting the Bulldogs (the tweet came on April 4, 2011, which is when Butler lost to the UConn Huskies in the national title game).
Congrats McIlroy!! #TheMasters https://t.co/tMQtYvuxiA
