Russell Wilson Trade Rumors Gain Steam Over New Report About His Interest In Washington Commanders

Although Russell Wilson is still under contract with the Seahawks, there is a growing belief in the NFL that he could force his way out of Seattle. The rumors started to swirl late last season and have only picked up steam in recent months.

Sports Illustrated reporter Albert Breer addressed the speculation earlier this week and suggested one top destination for Wilson. There is also thought that he could end up in Washington and it appears as though that idea is not off of the table.

After Pro Bowl practice on February 4th, Wilson and his wife took a photo with Washington defensive lineman Jonathan Allen. It immediately sparked speculation about the idea of Wilson joining the Commanders.

That speculation only grew on Wednesday when Allen started to recruit Wilson to Washington on Twitter. At the very least, Allen was planting the seed.

Allen is obviously just projecting. Maybe he is trying to speak it into existence. There isn’t all too much to go off of from Allen and Wilson’s relationship alone.

However, it goes beyond a few posts on social media.

According to Kevin Sheehan of The Team 980, Wilson is not against the idea of being traded to the Commanders.

“I did talk to a few people in Vegas,” Sheehan said on The Kevin Sheehan Show. “And the only thing that I will tell you is something that I feel confident in, based on the sources, and that is that Russell Wilson is not against being traded to Washington.”

Obviously, a bold trade offer would be required for Washington to pique the interest of Seattle. The pieces may not be there.

But Wilson, 33, has two years left on his contract and trading him now could be a valuable move for the Seahawks as they try to redefine their immediate and long-term future. They do not have first-round pick this season and although they would likely prefer to keep Wilson in Seattle, he could be on the move and Washington is not out of the picture.
