The San Antonio Spurs may have just guaranteed that they made the worst pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

With the 12th pick in last year’s draft, the Spurs selected the youngest player in the draft class, Alabama’s Joshua Primo.

As a 17-year old freshman for the Crimson Tide, Primo impressed NBA scouts enough to get himself consideration as a first round pick. Then a strong performance at the NBA combine shot him up into the top 15.

In his 1st season with the Spurs, Primo carved himself out a nice role, playing just over 19 minutes per game and averaging 5.8 points per game. He had a few promising performances late in the season that had fans excited to see what he might develop into.

This season, he continued his progression through the first few games, playing 4 more minutes per game and adding a full point and almost 3 assists to his averages.

Today, his run with the Spurs came to a shocking end with the team announcing that they had waived the 19-year old just 4 games into his second season in the league.

This was definitely not expected as Primo had already established himself as a role player for the Spurs and seemed like a perfect fit for a team that is in the early stages of a rebuild.

Right now there’s no indication of why Primo was waived, but whatever the reason, it will be difficult for any team to have made a worse pick than the team that spent pick 12 on a player that isn’t on their roster after 1 season.
