Search warrants suggest that someone close to NASCAR star Greg Biffle committed the burglary at his home shortly after he died in a plane crash as an inside job. According to detectives, the suspect appeared to be aware of the location of surveillance cameras and the house’s layout.
Newly released search warrants obtained by WSOC News reveal a number of troubling activities taking place following the plane crash that took the lives of Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, their two children, and three others.
The search warrants also reveal that, in addition to the home burglary, in which someone took $30,000 worth of cash, multiple guns, and jewelry, someone also allegedly stole “hundreds of thousands of dollars” more from Biffle’s family. Also, prior to the break-in, someone also compromised the family’s bank accounts.
‘I heard you’re dead, rest in hell’
According to the search warrants, the day after the Biffle family perished in the plane crash, an email sent to Greg Biffle’s account read, “I heard you’re dead, rest in hell.”
That same day, investigators claim that someone altered passwords, phone numbers, and email addresses associated with Greg and Cristina Biffle’s bank accounts. Also, someone cashed a bogus check from one of the Biffles’ accounts. The search warrant alleges that someone made additional attempts to hack the bank account. Investigators also later found fraudulent activity on Cristina’s Venmo account.
The documents also raise the possibility that someone executed the break-in as part of a larger scheme to steal more assets, and that several individuals with knowledge of the couple’s finances may have been involved.
‘Multiple suspects over multiple states’
WSOC News also reports that detectives believe they identified a woman who matched the suspect captured on camera on January 16, during a celebration of life for the Biffle family. Documents indicate that she was a family acquaintance. Shortly before the break-in, a license plate reader recorded a car associated with her near the Biffles’ residence.
“There are multiple suspects over multiple states. We can’t say they’re not connected, but we’re still investigating,” Iredell County detectives told WBTV News.
Detectives have reportedly requested search warrants for two houses, phone information, and email accounts. Law enforcement has already executed search warrants at a home in Denver, North Carolina, and at a Mooresville business and a residence. Police seized electronic equipment from the residence in Denver.
