LIV Golf superstar and Ryder Cup legend Sergio Garcia stopped short of singing Thin Lizzy’s ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ while announcing that he and Rory McIlroy, the face of the PGA Tour, are once again best friends forever.

Speaking with media ahead of the LIV Golf Andalucia Invitational, the Spaniard told Irish Golfer that he has his best friend back after the recent PGA Tour-LIV Golf merger orchestrated by the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

At one point, Rory and Sergio were so close that Rory was a groomsmen in Garcia’s wedding with Angela Akins. Things went sour around the time of LIV Golf’s creation when, according to Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia sent Rory a text that said “basically telling me to shut up about LIV, blah, blah, blah.”

Sergio later spoke about it publicly:

Rory says he replied in kind with “a couple of daggers.” And just like that, they had to remove their friendship bracelets as the BFFs were no more.

Until now. Sergio Garcia told Fatiha Betscher the bromance is back on.

Following the PGA Tour-LIV Golf merger, Sergio said “I think that at the end of the day, the important thing is that Rory and I, we got together, we talked, we had a great, great conversation with two, two friends that wanted to get back to that spot. And that’s the most important thing.”

Garcia added “At the end of the day, like I said, to me, the most important thing is that I, you know, I got my friend back. And, and that’s, that’s what matters the most.”

All’s well that ends well, right?

Sergio Garcia has yet to win on the LIV Golf Invitational tour. His best finish to date was a 2nd place result in Singapore.

But this week’s invitational is in Sergio’s native Spain. He has to be feeling great going into the 3-day event playing on his home soil and having his best friendship with Rory McIlroy restored.
