During the sixth season of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone clapped back at critics who were eager to highlight any and every joke and plot point that resembled one that had already been touched on by another program with “Simpsons Already Did It.”

The episode is both a rebuke of that tired talking point and an homage to The Simpsons; one that noted there was only so much South Park could do to avoid stepping back on the territory that had already been explored by another long-running animated comedy offering an absurdist look at day-to-day life in American suburbia.

The Simpsons has spawned over 700 episodes since it debuted in 1989, and over the span, it’s touched on basically every topic under the sun while inadvertently “predicting” a number of real-world events. That includes a number of things that have unfolded in the world of sports, including a Team U.S.A. curling win, the design of Tom Brady’s clothing line, and the victor of Super Bowl XXXVI.

As a result, plenty of people decided to take a chance on yet another prophecy being fulfilled at this year’s Super Bowl thanks to a viral meme that made it seem like The Simpsons had previously predicted a championship matchup between the Bengals and the Rams would end with Cincinnati securing the Lombardi Trophy by a score of 34-31.

According to The Action Network, the odds of that exact score being on the board at the end of Sunday’s contest dropped from 125-1 to 80-1 on BetMGM due to the influx of prop bets that were placed after the picture started to make the rounds.

However, there’s just one problem: The Simpsons didn’t actually do that.

The image on the bottom right is taken from a 1992 episode that predicted a Super Bowl matchup between the Bengals and the Dolphins, while the one featuring a shirtless Homer was taken from one that hit the airwaves in 2005.

At the end of the day, it’s not like any of that really matters, as hitting an exact score prop bet is the ultimate crapshoot regardless of whether or not you have a cartoon prophecy on your side. With that said, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t rooting for it to cash.
