“Doesn’t make any sense. Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you were married,” Cristiano Ronaldo posted on Instagram. “To your family, to your wife and children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. R.I.P. Diogo and Andre, we will all miss you.”
Liverpool legend and current TV analyst Jamie Carragher also took to social media to share his condolences.
“Devastating news about Diogo Jota & his brother Andre this morning,” Carrager posted on X. Thoughts are with everyone of their family & friends, especially his wife Rute & their three lovely kids 💔.”
As did former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
“This is a moment where I struggle! There must be a bigger purpose! But I can’t see it!” Klopp wrote. “I’m heartbroken to hear about the passing of Diogo and his brother André. Diogo was a not only a fantastic player, but also a great friend, a loving and caring husband and father! We will miss you so much! All my prayers, thoughts and power to Rute, the kids, the family, the friends and everyone who loved them! Rest in peace – Love J.”
In fact, all across X, tributes rolled in as fans, friends, and former players shared their memories of Jota and their condolences for his family. Liverpool fans were also quick to honor the player, leaving flowers and various tributes outside of the Anfield Stadium.

Spanish newspaper Marca reports that Jota and his brother were driving in the Liverpool player’s vehicle when a tire blew out, sending the car off the road at high speed.
Jota married his wife Rute Cardoso, just 10 days prior to the vehicle accident that took his life. The couple have three children together.
