South Carolina got off to a hot start during the 2025 college baseball season. However, the Gamecocks have struggled to replicate that success against power conference opponents and during SEC play.
To make things even worse, they are posting viral TikToks amid the losing streak.
South Carolina is one of the most prominent programs in college baseball, historically speaking. The Gamecocks made 35 NCAA tournament appearances since 1970, including 11 College World Series berths, six College World Series Finals appearances and two National Championships in 2010 and 2011.
This year has been more of a struggle. Clemson swept its in-state rival during a fiery home-and-home series at the beginning of March. South Carolina dropped two out of three against Kentucky this past weekend. The Gamecocks dropped to 5-16 in the SEC. They are 4-10 on the road.
There is still just enough time for a late-season turnaround. Barely. South Carolina needs to win (maybe sweep) home series against LSU and Florida, as well as on the road against Auburn, and to make a run during the conference tournament if it wants to have any shot of an NCAA Tournament bid.
However, the Gamecocks seem to be more focused on clout than wins.
Junior infielder Cayden Gaskin posted a video to TikTok over the weekend. His teammates and hitting coach Monte Lee joined in on a viral trend in which they pretend to be fairies.
It uses the audio from Myaap’s new song.
Before we go any further, let me be very clear. I have zero issue with a college athlete posting to social media or dancing on TikTok. This is what their generation does. There is nothing wrong with it. They are free to express themselves however they would like.
Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams recently participated in the same fairy trend. It is a thing.
However, there is a time and a place. For Gaskin to post this video in the middle of SEC play while South Carolina is losing more games than it wins is not great timing. To post it while on the road at Kentucy is not the place.
The video itself is not the issue here. The optics surrounding the video are poor.
TikTok videos are reserved for winners or for the offseason!
