Steelers Star George Pickens Claims He’s The Best Wide Receiver In The World

Ask any football fan who the best wide receiver in the NFL is and you’re liable to get any number of answers.

There’s Minnesota Vikings superstar Justin Jefferson. Or Miami Dolphins speedster Tyreek Hill. Or what Davante Adams, Cooper Kupp or Stefon Diggs.

Any of whom would be a fair enough answer.

But one name you’re not likely to hear is that of Pittsburgh Steelers second-year wideout George Pickens.

Pickens is a former five-star recruit who committed to play college football for the powerhouse Georgia Bulldogs. After a strong freshman season saw him pull down 49 passes for 727 yards and eight touchdowns, injuries hampered the rest of Pickens’ college career.

That caused him to slip to the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft where the Steelers selected him with the 52nd overall pick.

Pickens flashed highlights of his talents throughout his rookie seasoning, hauling in 52 receptions for 801 yards and four touchdowns. But those are hardly numbers worthy of being considered the league’s best receiver.

That hasn’t kept the Alabama native from claiming he’s the best in the world, however.

The stuff that I do, bro, I feel like I’m the best in the whole world,” Pickens said in interview with Kevin Clark of The Ringer. “I’m big, I’m fast, low 4.4 [speed]. Catch radius is crazy. So every time I get out on the field, I do kind of play angry because I should get the ball on every play if you just look at the size and the frame. If I was a coach, I’d just throw to him every time. But that’s not how the NFL works. So every time I’m out there, that’s why I throw the blocks. I love getting the ball, and when I’m not getting the ball I play angry so the attention is back on me. I basically draw attention to myself.”

You can’t knock the confidence. But fans were a bit more skeptical.

Thankfully for Pickens, he’ll have plenty of time to prove it once the Steelers season starts on Sep. 10.
