An up-and-down start to the 2022-23 NBA season just hit another snag for the Golden State Warriors.

The defending NBA champions are just 14-15 more than a third of the way through the new season. Most of their issues have come on the road. The Dubs are tied for the best home record in the NBA at 12-2. But they’re just 2-13 away from Oracle Arena.

Now it appears they’re set to come up against another roadblock in what has already been a trying season.

Steph Curry Set To Miss Significant Time With Shoulder Injury

Despite Golden State’s struggles, reigning NBA Finals MVP Steph Curry has yet against shown he’s one of the league’s premier players. The eight-time NBA All-Star is averaging 30 points, 6.8 assists and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting 43.4 percent from beyond the arc on more than eight attempts per game.

Simply put, Curry has been sensational, and the Warriors have needed every bit of his brilliance.

But now it appears they’ll need others to step up to avoid falling out of the playoff hunt altogether. Curry left Wednesday’s 125-119 loss to the Indiana Pacers late in the third quarter after taking a hit to his left shoulder.

He looked in obvious pain at the time but underwent an MRI on Thursday in Philadelphia to better diagnose the issue. It now appears the results of that MRI were not a good sign for the Warriors.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Golden State expects Curry to miss “a few weeks” while dealing with the injury, which will keep him out of a highly anticipated Christmas Day showdown with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Golden State will now have to rely on Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins, both of whom signed sizable contract extensions in the last year. The pair, in addition to Klay Thompson, are tasked with picking up the scoring load left by Curry.

If they can’t, the reigning champs may be unable to defend their title in the 2023 NBA Playoffs.
