Before she makes an appearance an appearance at Super Bowl 58 to support boyfriend Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift had some business to attend to.

Swift kicked off the international leg of her Eras Tour on Wednesday night in the Tokyo Dome.

During the first of three (unsurprisingly) sold-out shows, Swift made a major move to include two new songs on the tour’s set list.

Taylor Swift Had Tokyo Backup Plan For New Album Release

But what if Swift didn’t win a Grammy? How would she have unveiled the new album?

Thankfully, we have that answer.

“Going to the Grammys, going in, I had this plan,” Swift told the crowd in Tokyo. “But I really hadn’t told very many other people. I thought, ‘OK, if I’m lucky enough to get up there and win one thing tonight, I’m just gonna do it. I’m just gonna announce my new album.’”

If she hadn’t won, the announcement would have been delayed a few days.

“And luckily enough, that ended up happening,” she continued. “My backup plan was I was going to do it tonight in Tokyo. But thanks to you and your support, I was lucky enough to win a Grammy and tell you about it on stage at the Grammys. And now we can talk about it afterward, we can do like a debrief tonight.”

That wasn’t an issue. Swift won multiple Grammy awards, including a record fourth album of the year.

And with the new album out soon, that number could soon become five.
