Tiger Woods has shot 61 four different times on the PGA Tour throughout his career. One might assume that he would consider one of those rounds to be his best ever, but that isn’t the case at all.

Woods says that his best round of golf actually didn’t come during a tournament at all, but it did happen just a week prior to his first major championship victory.

One week prior to teeing it up in what was his third career start at the Masters, Woods linked up with Mark O’Meara at Isleworth Country Club for a casual round. It quickly went from casual to serious, however.

As Woods tells Golf Digest, they started on the back nine. He made par on 10, then went on an unbelievable heater.

“I par 10, birdied 11 and 12, eagled 13, birdied 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 1,” Woods explained.

Woods went on to shoot 59 that day, which included a par on the Par 5 3rd, a hole he said he had just a 3-iron into.

Woods’ unbelievable round at Isleworth was a preview of what was to come at that year’s Masters.

The 15-time major winner earned his first major victory at the 1997 Masters waxing the field by 12 shots.
