Most look at the Ryder Cup as the premier team event in golf, but this year’s Presidents Cup was wildly entertaining full of early upsets, caddies getting into it with fans and ultimately an emotional playing captain in Tiger Woods leading the U.S. Team to yet another winning of the cup.

Woods was dominant on the course and stuck to his gameplan outside of the ropes to help lead the Americans to their eighth straight win of the event. He questionably sat himself for both sessions on day three, but it ultimately worked out as Woods went 3-0-0 on the week helping the U.S. side retain the cup by a score of 16-14.

It was a special moment for Woods when the Americans clinched the win.

It wasn’t easy for the heavily favored Americans. They found themselves down 4-1 after day one’s four-ball session before slightly cutting into the International advantage trailing 6.5-3.5 after the second day’s foursomes.

The second session on day three is when the tides started to turn. Trailing 9-5, the U.S. team won two and tied the other two matches of the foursomes matches making the deficit a manageable 10-8 heading into the final day’s singles matches.

Woods set the tone early as he took on Abraham Ancer in the opening match of the day coming out on top with a 3&2 win before the U.S. side won six and only dropped one of the first nine matches on the course.

Cameron Smith pulling off the upset over Justin Thomas made things interesting late before things ultimately came down to the second to last match of the day between Louis Oosthuizen and Matt Kuchar.

Things looked bad for Kuchar as he found himself 3-down through nine holes, but found something quick on the back-nine as he birdied four of the first six holes to square things up on the 15th. After both players bogeyed the 16th hole, Kuchar faced a five and a half foot birdie putt on the 17th to go 1-up and at worst guarantee a tie in the match to keep the cup with the Americans and he took care of business.

What a 2019 it was for Woods. He won his fifth green jacket, picked up another win at the ZOZO Championship in Japan then won yet another Presidents Cup as both a captain and a player winning his 27th match to become the winningest player in Presidents Cup history.
