Quick question: who would you put on the Mount Rushmore of the best pure passers in NFL history? I am not talking about Super Bowl wins or all time record holders. I’m talking about best form, accuracy, arm strength, footwork, that sort of thing. Which quarterbacks could sling it the best in the history of the NFL?

Surely, you’d have to include Dan Marino and Aaron Rodgers on that list, right? How many times in their NFL careers did those two guys thread the needle? Or drop a pass into a tight spot where only the wide receiver could catch the ball?

Marino, one of the greatest quarterback of all time is already a Hall of Famer. That was a no-brainer, as is Aaron Rodgers, who is a lock to join him once he hangs up his spikes.

You know who else is just as good if not better than them at throwing a football? Tua Tagovailoa. At least according to expert on all things football, Trent Dilfer.

Dilfer bases this assessment on the top secret Rocky IV inspired workout camp he’s been putting Tagovailoa though for the past few months.

Why any top NFL quarterback prospect would be seeking the advice of Trent Dilfer, he of the career 70.2 QB rating, 55.5% completion percentage, and 113 to 129 TD to interception ratio is a mystery and a question for another time (and should be of great concern to any team thinking about drafting Tua), but I digress.

It happened, and Dilfer is completely smitten.

“There are some really, really good quarterbacks in this draft, but the best one is Tua,” gushed Dilfer to the Washington Post this week.

“If he would have never gotten hurt there would have been no discussion about who the best player in the draft is. He throws the football better than anyone throws the football,” claimed Dilfer.

“He has a better arm than Dan Marino and Aaron Rodgers,” he added. “Whoever gets him wins the draft because you are getting a Hall of Fame player.”

Well, goddamn. I guess there’s really only one question to ask then.
