Troy Aikman Shaded Jerry Jones Yet Again By Suggesting The Cowboys Are Screwed As Long As He’s Running The Team

The Dallas Cowboys were in a pretty dire place when Jerry Jones bought the team in 1989 but it didn’t take long for them to turn their fortunes around and create a dynasty that managed to win three Super Bowls over the course of four seasons in the early 90s.

That Cowboys squad had a number of weapons at its disposal including Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin but it’s impossible to talk about their dominance without mentioning Troy Aikman, who played a major role in helping the team reboot after he was drafted the same year Jones acquired the team.

The Hall of Famer would pivot to a career in broadcasting after he announced his retirement in 2000 and has gone on to become one of the more respected commentators in the game—and one of the more vocal critics of the owner he once played for.

Last year, Aikman blasted Jones while suggesting the Cowboys needed a “complete overhaul” and called him out for passing the buck when it comes to taking responsibility for their struggles—especially his tendency to place blame on coaches while ignoring the fact that he’s the person who hired them.

Jones has done exactly that on multiple occasions in recent weeks by repeatedly ripping into Jason Garrett as the floundering Cowboys continue to underwhelm, and last week, Aikman called him out yet again for failing to admit he might not be the best man for the job when it comes to managing football operations.

Now, Aikman has returned with a vengeance thanks to a recent discussion he had on 1310 The Ticket where he fielded a question about the possibility of him stepping into the role of general manager in Dallas—a notion he quickly dismissed before attacking Jones yet again:

“I believe that it’s unlikely that Jerry will ever bring somebody in that can help this football team in that regard just because he’s been real stubborn and steadfast, in that he’s the one in charge.

I think in a lot of ways until that changes, this team’s going to have some problems. Would he ever ask me to come be a part of it? I think that’d be a real leap of faith. I don’t envision that happening, and I don’t envision it happening at any point, quite honestly, no matter who’s in charge out there.”

Go. Off. King.

Aikman currently has a pretty good gig but it seems like he genuinely cares about the state of his former team and would be more than willing to contribute to the cause if given the opportunity.

However, based on all of the evidence at hand, that’s probably not going to happen as long as Jones has any say in the matter.
