Troy Aikman Puts Jerry Jones On Blast: The Way He Runs The Dallas Cowboys ‘Is To The Detriment’ Of The Team

Time is a flat circle. At least that’s been the case for the Dallas Cowboys over the past two decades.

Since 1996, the Cowboys have won a grand total of three playoff games. Three. All of them Wild Card games. All in all, Dallas is 3-9 in playoff games over that same span.

This season is more of the same as the team sits at .500 yet somehow still leading the abysmal NFC East and as has happened pretty much every year since 1996, Cowboys fans are getting a little antsy.

Rumors continue to swirl that head coach Jason Garrett will have to do nothing short of winning the Super Bowl this season to keep his job. This despite Cowboys owner Jerry Jones previously saying earlier this year that Garrett would be in high demand on the free agent coaching market.

The tide is turning, however, as speculation surrounding coaches like Ron Rivera, Sean Payton, Lincoln Riley, and Urban Meyer are reaching new heights thanks to Jones commenting this week, “In my opinion, Jason Garrett will be coaching in the NFL next year.”

“In the NFL…”

On Wednesday, while receiving the Heart of Dallas Award by the Dallas Influencers in Sports and Entertainment, Fox analyst and Hall of Fame Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman shared his thoughts on what he thinks is wrong with the Cowboys, and it isn’t the guy who was his backup for seven years.

“I think Jason is a heck of a football coach,” said Aikman. “He has done a really nice job in Dallas. I think this is a really hard job , it’s probably the hardest job in football. It goes beyond just the playing field and what all has to be managed in order to give your team a chance to have success. I think he’s done that as well as anybody. At some point whether you’re in Dallas or anywhere else I think there comes a time, unless you’re Bill Belichick in New England, that it’s time for a change. Now this story hasn’t been fully written. A lot could happen. They’re still in the hunt. And I would not be surprised if they did get on a run. I think they’re talented enough to do it. I think they have the right kind of people, but, you know, whatever happens down the road, I’m not worried about Jason Garrett. He’ll be just fine. I think he’s proven the quality of person he is, as also the way that he is as a head coach.

“There’s a lot to this job,” Aikman continued. “There is a lot you have to overcome. It’s not run traditionally the way most organizations are. I think that’s to the detriment of the Cowboys. You can’t look at three playoff wins over the last 25 years and surmise that all the problems over that time have been a result of coaching. I think you have to look at the top and say how are we doing it from the top. I think businesses do that. I think organizations, I think anyone worth their salt, evaluated from the top down and just simply changing the coaching, I don’t know that the results would be all that much different.”

In another interview with 1310 The Ticket, Aikman threw another shot Jerry Jones’ way when he said, “I think there are a lot of factors that have played into this. Coaching, obviously hasn’t been great at times in certain situations, players haven’t played great, but the front office hasn’t been great in allowing the head coach to do his job, either.”

Troy Aikman is definitely not going to be getting a Christmas card from Jerry Jones this year.

What do you think about Aikman’s comments, Jason Garrett?

That’s what I thought.
