UTSA baseball coach Pat Hallmark has apologized for his actions following a rivalry matchup with Texas State. The Roadrunners leader was seen shoving one of his counterparts to ignite an ugly scene.

He’s been forced to take responsibility for his temper tantrum. The school released a joint statement on the situation Wednesday night.

“I want to apologize to UTSA and our incredible fans for any embarrassment I may have caused for my conduct after last night’s game,” he said. “I also want to apologize to the Texas State baseball program, its coaches, student-athletes, and fans.

“Regardless of my motivation or provocation, I did not represent the sportsmanship and character that we demand… I will do better.”

Pat Hallmark pushed a Texas State coach.

UTSA faced Texas State on Tuesday night in the I-35 rivalry. The Roadrunners won convincingly, 19-4.

Tempers flared after the game. Coaches were seen in a shouting match on the infield. The Bobcats took offense to UTSA throwing at a batter. The Roadrunners did not admit the retaliation was intentional, though a bat flip was referenced.

“I don’t know if he was (thrown at on purpose), but we know you guys bat-flipped.”

Texas State freshman Blake Beheler bashed his first career home run in the loss. He admired it before rounding the bases. Below is a video of his reaction.

It seemed minimal, at least to me. I wouldn’t necessarily call it disrespectful, especially given the Bobcats trailed 16-1 at the time of the bomb. From my view, it seemed more a release of frustration during a game in which not much went right.

His next at-bat, a UTSA pitcher threw behind him.

Hallmark smirked as he visited the mound moments later.

All signs point to it being intentional. Texas State coaches voiced their displeasure after the game. The two staffs met in a tense confrontation at home plate. Hallmark then pushed an assistant.

Video disproves UTSA’s accusations.

Pat Hallmark did not initially take responsibility for his outburst. He suggested he was provoked. He said he was pushed first.

“(He) put his hands on me, so, I put my hands back on him.”

New video seems to show Hallmark as the aggressor. He gave the first shove.

Texas State’s assistant may or may not have touched Hallmark’s arm. Regardless, it did not warrant the head coach’s response.

The Bobcats started the argument with their criticism of the alleged retaliation. Hallmark escalated the situation with his shove. He’s now been forced to apologize.

While Athletic director Lisa Campos called the conduct “unacceptable,” it does not appear Hallmark will be suspended by UTSA. Both clubs will now move forward in attempts to make the NCAA Tournament.
