Tight end Zach Ertz is fast tracking his way into a potential Super Bowl title. The pass catcher has reportedly signed with the Detroit Lions ahead of an NFC Championship matchup.

The signing sparked an immediate reaction on social media, and it should give the Detroit offense a boost.

Ertz was released by the Arizona Cardinals in November, a move that was requested according to former teammate JJ Watt. The tight end was looking to “sign with a contender and ‘make a run at his second Super Bowl ring.'”

He’ll get that opportunity after signing with his new team at the last possible second.

The Lions are fresh off a pair of playoff wins over the Bucs and Rams, now gearing up for a matchup with the top-seeded 49ers. Ertz reached a deal with the team ahead of that championship contest and will now have a chance at hoisting the Lombardi trophy.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that the veteran will “start out on the practice squad, with plans to potentially elevate him for the NFC Championship Game.”

Ertz won a Super Bowl title with Philadelphia Eagles in 2017-18, taking down Tom Brady and the Patriots. He hauled in the go-ahead touchdown with just over two minutes remaining.

Now, a second title could be on the horizon.

NFL fans have been quick to comment on the Zach Ertz signing, and they know exactly what he’s doing!

“Shameless ring chasing but I respect it.”

“He really waited til there were just four teams to make a decision.”

“This is all-time level ring chasing, I’m dead.”

Zach Ertz is really ring chasing with the DETROIT LIONS. This is a dream.”

While Ertz will join a contender, he picked the longest shot of the remaining four squads.

At the time of this writing, Detroit boasts +700 Super Bowl odds, while the rest of the field sits at +350 or shorter. We’ll see if Ertz sees the field in the Lions’ next game as they look to upset San Francisco.
