Drone Footage Shows Crazy Congregation Of Sharks Just Inches Off The Beach

This is some pretty incredible footage captured using a drone at Fingal Bay Beach in New South Wales, Australia. In it, we can see a group of large sharks all swimming circles through massive schools of mullet, with the fish doing their darndest to avoid the sharks and become a snack. All of this takes place just feet (in some cases inches) off the beach with a large group of bystanders on hand to watch these sharks attempt to feast on the mullet.

The sharks you see above are mostly grey nurse sharks, a species that isn’t exactly known for being active. However, with that many mullet in the area, they’d be foolish to stay sedentary and miss out on potentially easy meals. After this footage surfaced the beach was closed to all swimmers until further notice, with local officials opting to allow the sharks to feed until they vacate the region.

This type of behavior isn’t unique to Australia. We see this here in Southeast Florida every year when the Annual Mullet Migration takes place. During this migration of mullet you’re able to see literally millions of mullet just off the beaches of the Atlantic Coast of Florida, and with those massive schools of fish come the blacktip sharks. To see what that looks like here in Florida you can check out this footage from the bros over at Blacktip H Fishing, the largest fishing channel on YouTube.
