55-Year-Old Is Attempting To Make History By Playing In College Football Game

On Thursday, Campusrush.com’s David Gardner published an excellent story about Joe Thomas Sr., a 55 year-old college football player who is attempting to make history by becoming the oldest man to ever take a snap in NCAA Division I Football. .

In Gardner’s report, Thomas Sr., who is the father of Packers Linebacker Joe Thomas Jr., graduated high school dreaming of playing Division I Football.

38 years later, Thomas Sr. might finally be getting his shot with South Carolina State University.

Now that Thomas is cleared to play, the team’s coaches have pledged give him a few snaps before the season is over but they are waiting for the right opportunity to put him into a game.

Joe has been cleared to play, and on Saturday he dressed as South Carolina State took on Norfolk State. But the game was too close for the coaches to risk putting him on the field. Pough has designed a play for Joe, though, and he has pledged to put him in if the Bulldogs are up big. I asked Joe early on what he believed would happen if the time came and he found his feet on the field. “I just imagine myself running free,” he says. And that would be a story worth telling.

This is going to make an excellent 30-for-30 someday.
