Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producer Phil Lord has confirmed that the film includes an homage to LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

In the hit film, the handshake that’s shared between Spider-Punk and Spider-Man India is a direct recreation of the handshake that James and Wade would do during their days with the Miami Heat.

One of the best-reviewed movies of the year so far — it currently has a 96% critics score and 95% audience score on Rotten TomatoesSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, Jake Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya, and Oscar Isaac. Here is the official synopsis for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, via Sony Pictures:

After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders. He must soon redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

The film will then be followed by the trilogy concluder Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is currently scheduled to hit theaters in March of next year. Given recent comments from the cast regarding how much voice recording they’ve done for the film, though, most fans are beginning to assume that it will be delayed.

Sony certainly has their hands full when it comes to their Spider-Man projects, as live-action versions of Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter are set to hit theaters next year, while they’re also beginning to wrap their arms around the production of Venom 3 and a fourth Tom Holland-starring Spider-Man. There are also reports that Steinfeld’s Spider-Woman will also be getting her own spinoff.
