Anthony Scaramucci and the Batmobile from Batman Returns
Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci is a wealthy man. He previously worked at Goldman Sach’s before founding his own investment firm, all prior to working in the White House where his 11-day tenure became infamous as the (then) shortest in history which led to lengths of time being measured in ‘Scaramuccis‘ around Washington DC.
In addition to co-hosting The Rest Is Politics with Katty Kay, Scaramucci continues to be a very successful investor with an estimated net worth upwards of $150 million. So it remains to be seen why he willingly offered up information on how The Batmobile might be his worst investing blunder to date.
Anthony Scaramucci Lost Out On A Fortune After Buying The Batmobile
After a recent appearance on The Adam Carolla Show, Anthony Scaramucci summed it up by saying “I’m going to embarrass myself here” while sharing a clip from the interview. According to the Harvard Law grad, in 2003 he purchased the actual Batmobile used in 1992’s Batman Returns starring Michael Keaton, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Danny DeVito.
It didn’t come cheap! The Mooch forked over $140,000 for the Batman Returns Batmobile back in 2003. For context, a Ferrari 360 Modena / Spider sold for between $150K to $170K back in 2003, so he spent slightly less than he would’ve if he bought a Ferrari.
Mind you, the Batmobile from Batman Returns was built by splicing together the chassis of two Chevrolet Impalas with a Chevy V-8 engine. Of course, you are buying The Batmobile and not what’s hidden under the hood but details matter!
Well, Anthony Scaramucci did not hold onto the Batmobile for too long. He sold it just three years later for $350,000. That is more than double what he initially paid for it and surely that’s a great investment, right? Wrong.
An auction from Julien’s Auctions was just announced including the Batmobile from Batman Returns and it is expected to fetch between $5,000,000 and $7,000,000. $7 MILLION sounds a whole lot better than $350,000, doesn’t it?! Here is the aforementioned clip from The Adam Carolla Show:
I’m going to embarrass myself here.
In 2003, I bought the Batman Returns Batmobile featuring Michael Keaton, Michelle Pfeiffer, Danny DeVito.
I paid $140,000.
Three years later, someone offered me $350,000. I sold it.

Of course, a man with an estimated net worth somewhere between $75 million and $150 million is not going to say that $7 million would have changed their lives forever and ever but realistically, $7 million is life-changing money for just about anyone. That could have potentially represented nearly 10% of his estimated net worth (at the lowest end).
As for whether or not the Batmobile from Batman Returns is actually worth $5-7 million, that is entirely up to the bidders to decide. To check out the full auction lot head on over to Julien’s Auctions by following the link above.
