Two California men accused of stealing more than $100,000 worth of items took selfies of themselves while committing the alleged thefts. Police accuse the two men, from Hayward, of stealing tools, copper wire and vehicles from an American Canyon business.

According to the American Canyon Police Department (ACPD), officers were able to identify two automobiles connected to the crime. They then shared this information with other law enforcement organizations. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office informed ACPD the day following the crime that they had pulled over one of the cars and detained the driver.

When ACPD officers responded to the scene, they gathered selfie photos of the driver committing the crimes among the evidence they used to place him under arrest for burglary. The officers booked him into the Napa County Department of Corrections.

The Hayward Police Department informed ACPD the next day that they had stopped the second car of interest and held the driver within their jurisdiction. After the ACPD arrived, they arrested the driver and booked him into the Napa County Department of Corrections for felony conspiracy to commit a crime.

A search warrant was executed in Hayward that same day by the ACPD, Napa Sheriff Detectives, Hayward Police Officers, and members of the Napa Special Investigations Bureau. The search revealed some of the stolen goods from the American Canyon business.
