A woman went to Chick-fil-A and asked for a substitution on her breakfast sandwich. When she got the receipt, she noticed something interesting.
TikTok creator @bvckethatbaddie posted a video with her thoughts on the subject. “I don’t know about other stores that do this, but Chick-fil-A actually takes off the price of an item if you subtract it,” she says to start the video.
She explains that she substituted the egg on her sandwich with egg whites. “So they actually subtracted the eggs,” she says. “They will subtract that price from the total of the order. I did not know that.”
She wants to know if she’s the only one who didn’t know. “Did anyone else know that about Chick-fil-A or any other restaurant?” she asks. “This is actually a good policy. It saves a lot of money.”
Is Chick-Fil-A The Only Restaurant To Subtract Substitutions?
In the comments section of the video, viewers discussed whether this is really a cost-saving policy or if it’s just how Chick-fil-A itemizes its receipts.
“They take the price off of the item and then charge for the item requested,” clarified one viewer. The TikToker replied, “Yes, but if you don’t request anything [else], it’s less.”
A second person said, “This is nothing new.”
“I did know that, because I work here,” a third person said.
Another person said, “Culver’s, too.”
Someone else said, “I always remove the lettuce and tomato when I’m feeling cheap.”
The Facts About Chick-Fil-A’s App Personalization
A few years ago, Chick-fil-A announced it would give users more personalization options on the app. That initiative was aimed at younger consumers who expect customization options, but it had the added effect of allowing budget-conscious users to opt out of certain ingredients altogether.
A Reddit user posted to r/ChickFilA three years ago to “shoutout [Chick-fil-A] for being one of the only places to actually give me a discount for removing cheese.” One person in the comments noted that it also applies to lettuce and tomato.
A second person replied, “But not pickles. But that one is pretty understandable.” A third person responded, “Pickles are the only basic sandwich inclusion besides butter on the bun. You can also get extra pickles for free.”
Another person said, “I get a discount for not liking tomatoes, which rocks!”
More than one person has noted in the past that this policy is not common among fast-food restaurants. In another Reddit thread posted to r/Showerthoughts on this subject, a restaurant owner said, “This is how we limit options. Especially if we’re a busy place. Some people don’t know when to stop customizing the food.”
@bvckethatbaddie This is cool of Chic-fil-a to do especially for saving money. Did anyone else know this? #chicfila #moneysavingtips #moneysaving #fastfoodlife #fastfoodreview
