Women Order Drinks. Then They Ask The Server If They Are ‘On The House’—His Response Might Shock You

Two women went out for dinner, and their server recommended a drink at the end of their meal. They accepted and waited until he brought them to see if they could get them “on the house.”

TikToker Kennedy Sack (@kennedysack) says the server recommended the woman carajillos, an espresso-based cocktail. She decided to ask the server if the drinks were on the house when he came back, hoping he would take them off their bill.

“One time before where I’ve asked for something on the house when I’m at a dinner, it worked,” she says. “When he brings them I’m going to be like, ‘These were on the house, right?’ Lets see his reaction.”

She puts her plan into action as the server starts to place the drinks on the table. He looks confused and hesitates, appearing as though he is going to take the drinks back to the bar.

Then, he places them on the table and says, “Yeah.”

“I told you guys, it works every time,” she exclaims. The women cheers their free drinks at the end of the clip. The video reached over 119,000 views.

Should You Ask For Your Drinks On The House?

While the woman’s trick worked this time, some restaurant workers discouraged the practice, calling it rude. On the r/bartenders subreddit, some share their responses to similar bids for free drinks.

“Work in a college town….Had a young female undergrad say, ‘You should give me a free drink cuz I’m pretty.’ Responded with, ‘Not pretty enough,'” a bartender shared.

Another said, “The moment someone asks the bar for a free anything, I immediately follow up with ‘because you can’t afford it?’ And that usually stops the free hand outs requests.”

“GTFO with that. What other profession do you just ask people to give you something free simply because you don’t want to pay for it?” a third remarked.

Others shared how customers should actually go about asking for freebies.

“Tip me really well, be patient & respectful when waiting for a drink, thank me, be consistent with those things thru the night and you might score a freebie at some point,” one suggests.

Testing Out The Hack

Some commenters called the TikToker’s trick smart and said they’ll try it next time they’re out. Others said they’ve also scored free drinks with the same method.

“I literally do this all the time and it works 30% of the time hahaha,” a viewer wrote.

“No bc my grandpa did this at dinner for lemonchello and it literally worked,” a second shared.

“Trying this today,” a third commented.

However, some viewers questioned whether the server should have accommodated her request.

“I feel as if ur putting him in an awkward position bc he thinks u won’t tip if he says no bc he already got the drinks,” one suggested. Sack replied, “I feel as if it’s not that deep. Just having fun.”

Another remarked, “Not from me whenever I have hooked people up they didn’t hook me up on the tip line people who tip well don’t ask their servers to give them free stuff.”
