Emma Coronel, 34, wife of Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, appears to have returned to her old job as a model following her recent release from prison.

El Chapo’s wife, full name Emma Modesta Coronel Aispuro, is a former teenage beauty queen who reportedly met Guzman during a party she hosted as part of her entry into the 2007 Coffee and Guava Festival beauty pageant in Canelas, Durango, Mexico.

After appearing on the VH1 reality TV show Cartel Crew, Coronel was arrested in 2021 on charges of international drug trafficking and conspiring to assist El Chapo in his 2015 escape from prison.

She was released from prison in September of last year, according to the US Federal Bureau of Prisons, after originally being sentenced to three years in the slammer after pleading guilty to charges in November 2021.

This month, Emma Coronel made a rare post to her Instagram account. In the post, she shared a series of photos that were tagged with both fashion stylist Edgar Ramos and women’s clothing store MAXA, adding in the caption, “Enjoy whatever you do to the fullest, in the end that will be your only reward.”

She also shared a video, originally posted by Telemundo host Azucena Cierco, in which the caption read, “EXCLUSIVE we are behind the scenes of the spectacular photo shoot.”

Earlier this month, El Chapo’s wife also shared another photoshoot, again tagging Edgar Ramos.

While still in prison in 2021, Emma Coronel made news when a report was published in which it claimed that she was “definitely cooperating” with authorities and was ready to “rat out high-ranking members of the Sinaloa cartel, including her own stepsons.”

A month after that report, her lawyer Jeffrey Lichtman loudly scolded federal authorities for the supposed leaks about his client.

“I’ve been involved with fabrication of evidence, destroying evidence, lying to judges, lying to juries by the feds, but to actually put this out there is an attempt to murder her and her family,” he said. “Let’s be clear about this. She’s got two 9-year-old girls that are exposed, obviously, and to put this out there so flippantly is designed to kill them.”

Lichtman then added, “If there was cooperation that was going on or was about to go on, it’s been destroyed.”

So far, everyone appears to have come out it unscathed. Especially Emma Coronel.
