Big news in the airline industry this week as the two largest discount airlines in America, Frontier and Spirit Airlines announced that they have completed a merger.
The deal makes the yet to be named combined company the fifth largest airline in the United States.
“This transaction is centered around creating an aggressive ultra-low fare competitor to serve our guests even better, expand career opportunities for our team members and increase competitive pressure, resulting in more consumer-friendly fares for the flying public,” Spirit President and CEO Ted Christie said in a statement.
Well they certainly can’t serve their guests even worse, can they?

“The transaction is centered around creating an aggressive low-fare competitor that will better serve guests, expand career opportunities for our team members and create value for our shareholders,” Christie told analysts on a call discussing the deal. “We believe we are a perfect fit with Frontier. Our businesses share similar values, including our long-standing commitment to affordable travel.”
Reactions to the news about the Frontier and Spirit Airlines merger was met with an abundance of sadness and negativity.
“I can’t imagine the consumer experience could get worse,” California Congressman Ro Khanna told CNN.
Joe Brancatelli, editor of JoeSentMe.com, a business travel site, told the Wall Street Journal, “Everything that’s wrong with air travel — everything that people hate about air travel — is Bill Franke’s fault.”
Bill Franke, for those unfamiliar, is the former chairman of Spirit Airlines, and current chairman of Spirit Airlines. Wow. That’s quite a resume.
The Frontier and Spirit Airlines merger news spawned SO MANY memes
Naturally, many people on the internet who have experienced flying the two low budget airlines also expressed their opinions about the merger… mostly in the form of memes.
This should 100 percent be the name of the new airline…

I understand the proposed/pending merger of Spirit and Frontier has folks suggesting names. Other than Sh*ttyMcPlaneFace all I can come up with is #VultureAir (where even your carrion isn't free). What else is out there?

It just goes on and on and on…
But hey, think this is bad? Just wait until this new company ends up merging with JetBlue.
