Garrett Wilson Had An Unorthodox Way Of Preparing For Life With Aaron Rodgers

If there is any singular member of the New York Jets that should be particularly excited about the arrival of Aaron Rodgers, it’s undoubtedly second-year wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

Going into his sophomore season with Gang Green, Wilson — who won Offensive Rookie of the Year last year — has the chance to take his game to the next level now that he’s catching passes from the future Hall of Famer.

Despite the fact that Wilson spent his first season in the National Football League with Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco, and Mike White as his quarterback, Wilson was still able to post 83 catches for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns en route to winning OROY.

As for how Wilson spent the offseason training to play with Rodgers, though, his method was a bit unorthodox: basketball.

“A lot of my training was playing hoops, man. I like to play hoops a lot and work on different body movements and things I used to do when I was younger,” Wilson told The New York Post in a recent interview.

“I feel like that was kind of my superpower or my little secret sauce is playing basketball during the offseason to get my lateral movement and all those things that translate to football.”

Wilson, Rodgers, and the rest of the New York Jets — who begin training camp this week due to their participation in the Hall of Fame Game on August 3 — will open their 2023 regular season against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in a Monday Night Football matchup on September 11.

At this time, the New York Jets are one of the top seven favorites to win next season’s Super Bowl, with their betting odds only trailing the likes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals, and Dallas Cowboys.
