Likely scarred by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss rushing to conclude Game of Thrones and therefore completely sacrificing the quality of the final season or so, A Song of Ice and Fire creator George R.R. Martin has come on and declared how long he believes House of the Dragon should run on HBO in order to do the story justice.

Editor’s note: this article will contain spoilers for Season 1, Episode 8 of House of the Dragon, “The Lord of the Tides.”

In a blog post on his website, the 74-year-old Martin said that in order to do the “Dance of Dragons” story justice, HBO must run House of the Dragons for four seasons, with each season consisting of ten episodes.

A Song of Ice and Fire creator George R.R. Martin believes House of the Dragon needs at least 40 episodes in order to tell the story properly

“It is going to take four full seasons of 10 episodes each to do justice to the Dance of the Dragons, from start to finish,” George R. R. Martin said on his personal blog earlier this week.

The first of those seasons will come to a conclusion on Sunday, October 23 when the season one finale hits HBO and HBO Max. HBO announced that the series had been renewed for season two about halfway through season one. Prior to that, the penultimate episode of season one will air on Sunday, October 16.

A prequel to that’s set about 200 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones, HBO’s House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Matt Smith, and more.
