Jonah Hill’s Confusing Last Decade Continues As New Comedy With Kristen Wiig Deemed ‘Unreleasable,’ Removed From Studio’s Schedule

There was a moment when Jonah Hill was on top of the world in Hollywood. Over the last decade, though, his career has been a confusing disappointment.

A little over a decade ago, Jonah Hill ripped off Best Supporting Actor nominations in 2011 and 2013 for Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street, respectively. 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street combined to gross over $530 million at the global box office. Comedy movies barely exist these days, let alone become $500M franchises, hence recent confirmation that a third film, 24 Jump Street, is in the works.

He made a scene-stealing cameo in Django Unchained and an all-timer self-deprecating performance as himself in This Is the End.

Jonah Hill’s latest movie Cut-Off alongside Kristen Wiig was pulled from the studio’s schedule because it was deemed “unreleasable”

Since his directorial debut Mid90s was largely well-received in 2018, though, his career has been a mixed bag, to put it kindly. Since 2019, Hill’s credits include: voice roles in a How to Train Your Dragon and Lego Movie, The Beach Bum, Don’t Look Up, You People, and Outcome, which he directed and starred in.

The general consensus around the Keanu Reeves-starring Outcome was derision, and now his latest movie Cut Off — which he also directed — has reportedly been deemed “unreleasable” and will no longer be released on its planned July 17 date, according to Puck News.

“It’s called Cut Off, and Kristen Wiig and I play two dumbass heirs — rich kids in their mid-40s who get cut off by their rich parents, played by Bette Midler and Nathan Lane. It is like Step Brothers, Clueless and Trading Places. Classic comedy,” Hill said on the SmartLess podcast earlier this year.

Alongside Hill and Wiig, additional cast members include Camila Cabello, Adriana Barraza and Chelsea Peretti.

THR confirmed Cut Off does not have a release date at this time, although a source for Warner Bros. said “the film wrapped production in January and that Warner Bros. wants more time in the run-up to its release,” and that a new release date is forthcoming.
