Kit Harington’s Tease Of The Jon Snow Spinoff Sounds Like A My Chemical Romance Song: ‘He’s Not Okay’

Somewhat predictably — given that the character was the undeniable hero of Game of Thrones, one of the biggest pop culture franchises ever created — reports from earlier this year revealed that HBO is developing a direct sequel series centered on Kit Harington’s Jon Snow.

What was surprising about the report, though, is the fact that it was apparently Harington and his own team of writers that cooked up the idea and presented it to HBO and Thrones creator George R.R. Martin.

Now, whether or not Harington cooked up a Jon Snow project because had had a feeling that Eternals would bomb or because he simply missed the character is another article for another day.

What’s undeniable, though, is that it’s an undeniably positive thing to see that Harington is in the headspace where he’s ready, and itching, to play Jon Snow again. If you recall, Harington checked himself into rehab following the conclusion of Game of Thrones a few years back.

Speaking about the series publicly for the first time over the weekend at the official Game of Thrones con, Harington gave a pretty substantial tease of the series — which sees Jon Snow, once again, north of The Wall — that ultimately sounded like a song by My Chemical Romance: “He’s not okay,” Harington said of Snow.

“He’s gotta go back up to the place with all this history and live out his life thinking about how he killed Dany, and live out his life thinking about Ygritte [played by Rose Leslie] dying in his arms, and live out his life thinking about how he hung Olly [Brenock O’Connor], and live out his life thinking about all of this trauma, and that…” Harington paused for a brief moment. “That’s interesting,” he coyly emphasized.

“So I think where we leave him at the end of the show, there’s always this feeling of like… I think we wanted some kind of little smile that things are okay. He’s not okay,” he said. [via Entertainment Weekly]

While the still-untitled Jon Snow project still doesn’t have an official release date — hell, HBO hasn’t even officially announced it — my bet is that it’ll begin production next year and will aim for a 2024 release. In the meantime, you can stream both Thrones and House of the Dragon over on HBO Max.
