There are not many situations in which I could advise trying to evade police while behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Perhaps if you’ve got the funds to afford a McLaren P1 or a Bugatti Veyron. But even the ends, the odds are sooner or later you’re getting hauled in.

I particularly would not advise you try to evade police while behind the wheel of a John Deere tractor that tops out at 20 miles per hour. There’s only one way that chase is ever going to end.

But no one seemed to tell that to a man in Watauga County, North Carolina on Monday.

Man Leads Police On Hour-Long Chase While Driving A John Deere Tractor

An unnamed driver was arrested on Tuesday morning for leading police on a low-speed chase that last an hour as he drove a tractor and caused chaos.

Kenneth Reece of WataugaOnline.com reports that the suspect was eventually apprehended. But not before an absolutely comical series of events.

The chase began in Boone during the 9 am hour, in the area of Highway 421 in the city limits. The tractor driver reportedly hit at least two vehicles and pushed a dumpster into a church building, according to scanner dispatches at the time.

The chase continued onto old highway 421, where spike strips were deployed just before Food Lion. After hitting the strips the tractor driver continued across 421 intersection onto old 421 heading toward Parkway School. After law enforcement shot out the back right tire in the area of JW Hampton’s shop, the tractor driver then turned onto Corbett McNeil Road.

The driver continued to cause chaos, including road damage.

At that point, the driver then turned around in a yard, rammed an LEO car, and then proceeded back onto old 421, then turned onto Elk Creek Road. Law enforcement noted at the time that sparks from the flat tires were causing damage to the roadway and the tractor was still traveling in the middle of the road.

But eventually he met the end that everyone knew was coming.

The chase continued, at speeds around 20mph, down Elk Creek Road until just after 10 am. The tractor driver fled on foot and was caught in the 4600 block of Elk Creek Road, according to scanner dispatches at the time.

As it turns out, tractors are hard to stop. But when he ditched the vehicle, things got dicey.

Folks actually commended the suspect’s ingenuity.

But there was only one way it was ever going to ended. Coincidentally, Watauga County and Boone are home to Appalachian State University. So many he was just still celebrating the Mountaineers upsetting Texas A&M.
