Laurence Fishburne, Who Was Not In ‘The Matrix 4’, Takes Steaming Deuce On ‘The Matrix 4’

While the character of Morpheus may have appeared in The Matrix: Resurrections, he was played by up-and-coming star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and not beloved veteran Laurence Fishburne, who did not appeal in the film at all.

Speaking to Variety at the premiere of his new Netflix fantasy film The School for Good and Evil, Fishburne shared his thoughts on The Matrix: Resurrections and says it wasn’t “as good as he hoped.”

“No, not really,” Fishburne said at the premiere of his latest film, “The School for Good and Evil” on Netflix. “It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. And it wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be.”

“I thought Carrie-Anne and Keanu really did their thing. Yeah, that’s what I thought,” Fishburne said. [via Variety]

The fact is that Fishburne, potential personal grudges aside, is right: the subsequent Matrix sequels have all failed to live up to the simply sublime original (although Reloaded is underrated, in my opinion), and that was absolutely the case when it came to Resurrections, which was better than Revolutions but not as good as the first two.

Still, regardless of how disappointing Resurrections may have been, it will never take away from the fact that the original is an iconic piece of action filmmaking.
