Margot Robbie stormed onto the Hollywood scene in a way few other actresses do, as her breakthrough role was opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in a Martin Scorsese movie, having starred as Naomi Lapaglia in 2013′ The Wolf of Wall Street.
In the decade-plus since, Margot Robbie has not only become an Academy Award-nominated actress but she’s become one of the biggest movie stars in the world, as evidenced by the success of 2023’s billion-dollar-grossing Barbie.
It turns out that Robbie has always had the instincts of a movie star, as she recently revealed that it was her idea for Naomi to rock her birthday suit in her most iconic Wolf of Wall Street scene (you know the one I’m talking about).
While Robbie says that Martin Scorsese told her she could wear a robe for the scene, Robbie recently said in an interview that it was her idea to go fully bareback.
“That’s not what she would do in that scene,” she said on an episode of the Talking Pictures podcast. “The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked—that’s the card she’s playing.”
Since breaking through with The Wolf of Wall Street, Robbie has gone on to earn acclaim for her performances in films such as Focus, I,Tonya, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Bombshell, Babylon, Barbie, and her performance as Harley Quinn in the now-defunct DCEU.
Robbie has also become a shrewd producer with her company LuckyChap Entertainment, which she founded in 2014, having produced films such as I, Tonya, Birds of Prey, Promising Young Woman, Boston Strangler, Barbie, Saltburn, and My Old Ass, in addition to a litanny of upcoming movies.
The Wolf of Wall Street, the highest-grossing box office film of Scorsese’s iconic career ($406.9 million worldwide), wound up being nominated for five Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor (for DiCaprio) and Best Supporting Actor (for Jona Hill). The Wolf of Wall Street is now available to stream on Paramount+.
