As Thanos himself said in the opening moments of Infinity War, dread it, run from it, destiny arrives all the same: after waves of movie delays — some six months, some an entire year — Disney has shown that they are not immune to the current times, as they’ve announced that they’ve rescheduled their entire upcoming slate of movies.
Essentially pushing everything back six months, Black Widow — which was set to be the first film in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — will now hit theaters in November. Additionally, The Eternals — which stars Angelina Jolie, Kit Harington, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, and more — has now been pushed back to next year, hitting theaters in February 2021.
Black Widow: November 6, 2020
The Eternals: February 12, 2021
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: May 7, 2021
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: November 5, 2021
Thor: Love and Thunder: February 28, 2022
Black Panther 2: May 8, 2022
Captain Marvel 2: July 8, 2022
Disney obviously remains committed to keeping the MCU in movie theaters, as they opted to just release another of their upcoming films, Artemis Fowl, straight to Disney+. Artemis Fowl, which stars Colin Farrell, was originally scheduled to hit theaters on Friday, May 29. It’s a shrewd move from the Mouse House: while I’d never see that movie in theaters, I’ll probably toss it on Disney+. Still, when it comes to the MCU, the studio wants to stick to the traditional movie-going experience.
