Jimbo Fisher caught some heat for his final play call in Texas A&M’s close loss against Alabama.

After his team battled back in the fourth quarter, the Aggies found themselves on the two-yard line with just three seconds remaining on the clock. Trailing 24-20, Fisher drew up a play that he believed gave his team a chance to win.

Unfortunately, QB Haynes King’s pass attempt fell harmlessly to the ground to end the game. Alabama defender Terrion Arnold had tight coverage on the back shoulder fade, giving the Aggie receiver no shot of securing a touchdown.

Almost as if he knew what was coming…

Alabama DB says Jimbo Fisher tipped him off on final play call

Fisher was already being criticized for the play call as it didn’t appear to give his guys a chance to win the game. Now, new information has fans even more heated.

Arnold claims that Jimbo showed his hand on that final play, allowing the defender to step up and force the game-saving incompletion. Here’s what he had to say after the game.

From Nick Kelly of the Tuscaloosa News:

“In my head, I’m just thinking, ‘Don’t get beat,’ I’m like, ‘OK, they’ve been going to Evan. Evan is kind of hot.’ I’m using my clues and looking at their tendencies.

“I’m actually looking at Jimbo before the play, just going through, and he’s like, ‘Evan, Evan, Evan, Evan.’ I was like, ‘OK, I’m ready.'”

Evan refers to Aggies’ wide receiver Evan Stewart, who had quite a night on Saturday. The pass catcher went for eight catches and 106 yards. Unfortunately, he wasn’t given a chance to haul in reception number nine.

Part of that was his head coach’s doing.

Fans were quick to react to the comment from Arnold, with many blasting Fisher for tipping the defense off.

One person wrote, “Egregiously poor coaching in CFB is an epidemic,” while another commented, “Absolutely incredible.”

This fan might’ve summed up the feeling of Aggies supporters best by simply posting the facepalm emoji. Tough way to lose after battling back against the No. 1 team in the nation.

With Arnold keyed in on where the pass was going, he locked in on his opponent and made the play. Alabama escaped with a 24-20 win over their SEC West rival, keeping its spotless record intact. Fisher and the Aggies fell to 3-3.
