Apple generally debuts their new iPhones at their big event held in September. And while we’re still 140 days from September 1st, it’s never too early to delve into possibilities of what new toys Apple will bring to the table. There are rumors that Apple will release three new iPhones including one that may have a triple-lens rear camera that will cost over $1,000.
For months, there have been rumors that Apple will release three new iPhones in 2018. If they do drop three new handsets, it will the second time in Apple’s history that they have released three new smartphones at one time. The last time was last year when they revealed the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.
There will reportedly be a brand new iPhone X, an iPhone X Plus with a huge 6.5-inch OLED screen, and a cheaper plus-sized iPhone with a 6.1-inch LCD screen, probably called the iPhone 9. These next-gen iPhones are expected to have improved batteries with more capacity and new features, possibly 3D sensing. The iPhone 9 would likely feature Face ID and cost between $650 and $700. The next generation iPhone X would be cheaper than the original and have a price tag of around $900. The iPhone X Plus could cost as much as $1,100.
Then there is a possibility that one of the new iPhone X models (Probably the iPhone X Plus) could be equipped with a triple-lens rear camera. Three lenses would improve photo quality especially in low-light situations and increase the optical zoom. The new handset would feature a 6P (6 Piece) lens system that will have a 5x optical zoom. Currently, the best Apple offers is iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus have a 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom.
Samsung only recently featured a phone with dual lens cameras with the Galaxy Note 8 and the Galaxy S9. If the three-lens rear camera sound familiar it is because Huawei introduced the three-lens system on their P20 and P20 Pro smartphones this year. The P20 Pro is a phone made for the photographer and boasts a 40-megapixel f/1.8 lens, a 20-megapixel f/1.6 monochrome lens, and an 8-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.
There are also rumors that Apple will make a foldable iPhone, but that won’t be available until 2020 at the earliest. Then there is the chatter that Apple will manufacture a new iPhone with a curved screen that can be controlled by touchless gestures, but that technology won’t be available for three to five years.
