Sasquatch, Yeti, Yowie, Ohio Grassman, Monkey Man, Mogollon Monster, Wendigo, Almas, Orang Pendek, Mapingauri, Yeren, Skunk Ape.

Those are just some of the 58 different names used around the world to describe the cryptid most Americans refer to as Bigfoot.

Much like the Jersey Devil, the Mothman, Chupacabra, and the Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot and its related creatures have proven so elusive that no one has ever gotten definitive proof that they exist.

One the most recent sightings of the creature comes to us in the form of a Skunk Ape, also known as the Florida Bigfoot.

Skunk Apes have been reported to have been seen in southeastern states like Florida, Georgia, and Alabama for more than two centuries.

There have been reports of a “man-sized monkey” as far back as in 1818 in Apalachicola, Florida. Another report came in 1929 at the Perky Bat Tower at the Florida Keys.

Several more sightings over the years led to a bill being proposed to the Florida state legislature in 1977 to make it illegal to “take, possess, harm or molest anthropoids or humanoid animals.” The bill failed to pass.

Perhaps this latest Skunk Ape footage will change Florida legislators’ minds.

Shared recently by the Rocky Mountain Sasquatch Organization (RMSO), the image, taken from a game camera, certainly shows… something.

“My buddy that researches the Florida Skunk Ape was sent this from our neck of the woods,” the person who submitted the video told the RMSO. “If it’s a fake it’s a good one! What do you think it is?”

“Doesn’t look like a chimpanzee to me,” the RSMO narrator says on the video. “However, I do wonder if it’s some kind of an ape or monkey living in the wilds of Florida.

“Also, wonder if a Skunk Ape looks anything like this? Some people claim Bigfoot, Sasquatch and Skunk Apes are gorilla in shape with a face that looks like a human. And then others say that the creature has an ape-like face.”

One commenter on the video wrote, “Several years back, I lived by a river in the coastal region of Alabama. The land behind my home is a nature reserve with exactly the same habitat as shown in this picture.

“An elderly neighbor tossed her left-overs onto the reserve attracting a family of Sasquatch. I believe this family is migratory, until they discovered staying for easy meals. My neighbor, who shared a driveway with me, began having her garbage cart ‘raided.’

“I experienced the same problem. This family seemed aggressive and unafraid, since one was even brazen-enough to come onto my deck one night, also looking for an easy meal from a garbage bag left on a table. Something with a large hand, and opposable thumbs, opened the bag using its index finger and thumb. I lived in the area a year and a half before these problems began occurring.

“So, do I believe the animal in this picture is a Sasquatch, and not a a person? Absolutely.”

What do you think?
