Texas Woman Goes To The Golf Range Alone To Practice. Then She Notices What A Man Behind Her Is Doing: ‘Does It Make You Nervous?’

A Texas woman was practicing at the driving range when she noticed a man approaching her. Unfortunately, the interaction causes her to eventually leave the premises.

TikTok creator Monique Elizabeth (@monique_elizabeth) captured the exchange on video as she recorded herself hitting golf balls at the driving range. “I wasn’t going to post this, but seriously I’m over it,” she wrote in the on-screen text.

A few seconds later, viewers learn exactly why Monique Elizabeth felt “over it” that day. Out of nowhere, viewers hear a man’s voice, asking, “Would you like me to take a video of you?”

Monique Elizabeth declines and continues her practice.

Why Did This Texas Man Approach A Woman At The Driving Range?

In the on-screen text, Monique Elizabeth reveals that the man then walked behind her camera and stood there staring at her. He apparently walked all the way across the range to do this.

“Have you been golfing for very long?” the man asks. It’s clear that Monique Elizabeth is not interested in giving him that or any other information.

However, the man continues watching her for several more seconds. “Then moves in front of me to record me despite me turning him down and avoiding his conversation,” she writes in the on-screen text.

Eventually, she asks the man to please stop recording her. “Does it make you nervous?” he asks, clearly not understanding how weird this interaction has become.

“No, I just don’t want to be bothered,” she says, flatly. “I didn’t ask for help.”

Women Don’t Want To Be Approached At The Driving Range

In the caption, Monique Elizabeth writes, “He ended up moving a few feet further away and kept watching until I gave up and gave my balls to the little boy and his father behind me. PSA to men: Women don’t come here looking for help. If we want help, we’ll ask. Recording and taking pictures without permission is creepy. I feel like we shouldn’t have to explain this… yet here we are. Respectfully, leave us alone.”

In the comments section of the video, viewers reacted to the incident at the Texas driving range and Monique Elizabeth’s PSA to men.

“The way that would just ruin my whole vibe and make me wanna cry and leave,” wrote one woman.

“I’m ugly,” joked a second. “I never have this problem.”

“You should have loudly called him out, embarrassed him, and asked him to leave,” a third person argued.

Mansplaining On The Golf Course

Getting mainsplained or harassed on the golf course and driving range is sadly a very common experience for women in the sport. Golf is historically a male-dominated sport, which created an environment characterized by discrimination and inequality.

Another woman had a similar experience at a range in Colorado. She set up a tripod to record herself practicing, and a man lurked for 10 minutes behind her before offering to “help record” her. He proceeded to hang around and watch her.

And another man yelled at a woman in California for golfing too slowly for his liking. That woman said it’s the reason “women are scared to golf alone!”

About two years ago, a woman posted a thread to Reddit’s r/womengolf to vent about a similar experience. In the post, the woman described an experience very similar to Monique Elizabeth’s. “Do they not understand how annoying that is?” the woman asked. “Then they sometimes become aggressive/upset if you ignore them.”

Several women in the comments said they just ignore these men. “I just wear earbuds and pretend I don’t hear them,” one wrote. “My go-to response is ‘I don’t remember paying you for a lesson.’”
