It’s been almost a decade since movie fans have gotten a proper David Fincher film, as his 2020 black-and-white movie Mank was an incredibly niche passion project, to say the least. That said, it’s important not to forget his brilliant Netflix series Mindhunter, either.

Finally, though, the Fincher that fans know and love from films such as Gone Girl, The Social Network, Zodiac, and Fight Club is back with the first trailer for The Killer, which also stars the recently-MIA Michael Fassbender, the Oscar-nominated actor known for his performances as Magneto, Steve Jobs, and more.

Here is the official, brief synopsis for The Killer, via Netflix:

After a fateful near-miss, an assassin battles his employers, and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn’t personal.

In addition to Fassbender, who is returning from something of an acting hiatus this year(he last starred in 2019’s Dark Phoenix), The Killer also stars Arliss Howard, Charles Parnell, Kerry O’Malley, Sala Baker, Sophie Charlotte, and Tilda Swinton.

The Killer isn’t the only film that Fassbender has due out this year, as he’ll also be starring as Thomas Rongen in Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins, which is based on the true story of the American Samoa national soccer team (widely considered to be among the worst in the world) and their attempt to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Next year, Fassbender will also appear in David Samberg’s martial arts comedy Kung Fury 2 alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Alexandra Shipp, Ralf Moeller, and Jorma Taccone. Furthermore, Fassbender is currently attached to star alongside Alicia Vikander and Taylor Russell in Na Hong-jin’s upcoming thriller film The Hope.

The Killer will have its world premiere at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on September 3 before hitting select theaters on Friday, October 27. Then, on Friday, November 10, The Killer will begin streaming on Netflix.
