While Tom Hardy has not been officially fired from his Paramount+ series MobLand, his future on the show is clearly incredibly murky. Following reports that he’d been canned, an inside source is now saying he’s not been let go.
According to a new report from Variety, Tom Hardy has not been fired from the Paramount+ series, and that discussions are actively underway to bring him back for a potential third season.
A source close to the production of MobLand says that Tom Hardy has not been fired and negotiations for Season 3 are underway
“Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3 and things are being worked through creatively,” a source close to production said.
Per the initial reports about the situation, Hardy’s tardiness — which resulted in his making the likes of Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren wait for him on set — and requests to rewrite scripts contributed to his dismissal.
This new report from Variety claims, however, that showrunner Jez Butterworth’s would deliver scripts just a week before shooting, thus giving Hardy little time to prepare. Butterworth was also frequently absent from set, meaning there was no one with the authority to address Hardy’s script notes as they formed.
“The cause of the fallout is a combination of factors, including reports of Hardy’s tardiness on set and insistence on re-writing some of the script, multiple sources confirmed to Variety. But insiders note that there is apparently fault on both sides.”
“‘He’s difficult, but he’s a movie star’” a second production source said. Others pointed out that the tensions could have been amicably resolved sooner, but the leaks from production ‘sources’ alleging that Hardy has been fired have inflamed the situation, and are causing this drama to drag on.”
Sources also pushed back on reports of friction between Hardy and Mirren, calling the political angle — and their supposed differing opinions on Israel and Palestine — “wildly unhelpful and untrue.”
Hardy has developed a reputation of being difficult on sets, most famously clashing with Charlize Theron on the set of George Miller’s 2015 epic Mad Max: Fury Road.
MobLand premiered on Paramount+ in 2025. The second season has finished filming but has not yet been released.
