Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have been an item for about a year. But they are an item no more, with the two apparently splitting despite posing together at the Oscars.
“Before rumors or falsifications get out of hand, we can confirm that Orlando and Katy are taking respectful, loving space at this time,” a statement to PEOPLE from both of their reps reads. The couple dated for a little over a year.
Why is this important to your life at all? Well, it isn’t unless you *genuinely* think you stand a snowballs chance in hell with Ms. Perry, one of the great wonders of the pop universe.
But here’s why I’m interested…. The timing is auspiciously aligned with the release of a John Mayer’s latest project. So let me connect some hypothetical dots — Her ex-boyfriend’s new album, The Search For Everything, is admittedly his “break up” album about his relationship with Perry. There’s no track the Mayer-Perry relationship is more apparent on than “Still Feel Like Your Man” where he talks about leaving “her shampoo in his shower” and “liking the letters in your name and how they feel.”

Which allows me to put on a heady pop music tin foil hat for a hypothetical situation down the road, pending Mayer being “over” Perry or not:
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom broke up. John Mayer "still feels like her man." Prediction: Katy Perry becomes the Donna of Dead & Company.

Fascinating theory. Universe might explode into psychedelic rainbows. Everyone wins? https://t.co/wnsI4iT9nk

You heard it here first when Perry comes out at CitiField for a 20-minute rendition of Jerry Garcia’s “Don’t Let Go.”
Watch Mayer perform “Still Feel Like You Man” on Kimmel last night. The jam shreds.
