‘Black Panther’ Inspired The Rock To Work Out Even Harder, But Not For The Reasons You’d Guess

The success of Black Panther has been nothing short of remarkable. While most everyone knew that Marvel was going to have a hit movie on their hands, no one saw the kinds of record-breaking box office numbers that the film has been making. The film is on its way to becoming the most successful movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever.

Another movie that came out back in late December also blew expectations completely out of the water and that was Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle starring one Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. That movie is also closing in on $1 billion worldwide and is STILL one of the top ten box office movies almost TWO MONTHS after its release.

Now with Black Panther rolling along, and inspiring many people along the way, The Rock too used the move for a little motivation. But it had nothing to do with T’Challa’s wisdom or Killmonger’s laser focus. The Rock was inspired by Black Panther because as he wrote on an Instagram post, “Gettin’ my ass kicked is always good motivation.”

In the video, showing Johnson getting ready to work out, he says, ““You got to finish the week strong, because you start it all over again tomorrow. So I woke up thinking, ‘Okay, what’s my inspiration?’ And I need a little bit of motivation.”

After considering his daughters and his pregnant girlfriend as sources of inspiration, he finally settled on something else.

“But then I think about Black Panther kicking the shit out of Jumanji at the box office. That’s all the motivation I need,” said The Rock. “Okay, that’s it. So Wakanda forever. Okay, I know, I said that with a little too much mustard. I’m very proud of Ryan Coogler and the cast of Black Panther. Congratulations. So proud. Wakanda forever. That’s all I need. Motivation enough.”

Between seeing The Rock talking about Black Panther and watching the film itself, I don’t know about you, but I am ready to run through a brick wall right about now.
