Men’s Mental Health Month is almost over, but you still have time to try BetterHelp! We’ve explored a lot of the reasons why men in particular seem to avoid therapy, but I’d like to share my own personal therapy journey that started with BetterHelp five years ago.

About five years ago, I was at an interesting point in my life. I was getting ready to propose to my now-wife, I was enjoying coming out of quarantine like everyone else, and I was generally pretty happy. But under the surface, I was struggling. I had gotten fed up with my office job at the time and was desperately looking for a new job for months on end to no avail. Every rejected application stung me worse than the last, and it took a toll on my day-to-day mood.
I tried to put on a brave face, but my wife started to notice. She suggested I talk to someone, but getting an in-person appointment in the immediate post-COVID era was damn near impossible. That’s when I first signed up for BetterHelp.
What I discovered through my experiences with BetterHelp is that therapy is not some strange experience where you pour your emotional guts out to a stranger. It’s a judgment-free conversation where you have a platform to talk about what’s going on in your life, what you’re feeling, how those interconnect, and what tools you can use to manage it all.

Think of it as a tool for everyday mental wellness rather than just something for moments of crisis. Because on good days or bad, we all could use support that is always accessible, wherever and whenever it’s needed.
