With the World Cup coming to a close this month and football still several weeks away, we’ve officially entered the time of the year when baseball is all we have to entertain us. That’s usually fine and dandy for me, but the Yankees have decided to infuriate me at every turn heading into the All-Star Break. I’d sure like for this team to get back to winning the World Series every year like the good old days of my childhood. Speaking of the good old days of baseball, Nike just re-released a pair of Air Griffey Max 1s that are selling out fast.

For those of us who got to watch Ken Griffey, Jr. in his prime, it’s hard not to be nostalgic about what felt like a truly special time to be a baseball fan. Younger fans might just know the name or the version of Griffey on the Reds when he was hurt all the time. But those years on the Mariners…he was a legend. The perfect swing. The complete command of playing center field. The backwards hat that made wearing baseball caps backwards cool until Fred Durst ruined it for everyone.

But not even that nu-metal weirdo could ruin the re-release of these iconic kicks that first debuted in 1996. All the beautiful details of this shoe, from the classic Mariners colors to the “Hall of Fame Class of 2016” print on the tongue, make me want to buy a pack of Big League Chew (I’m partial to Sour Cherry) and have a catch in the backyard.
